Business basics
Five minutes to check your business information.
Small inconsistencies can leave customers unsure which information to trust.
Your website says one closing time. A map listing says another. An older social profile points to a previous phone number. Each item may seem minor on its own, but a customer needs one dependable answer before calling or setting out.
We suggest a short comparison of the places customers are most likely to encounter. Start with the website, the main map listings, and any social profile the business actively uses. Check the business name, customer-facing address or service area, phone number, hours, and primary website link.
Separate the routine from the exception.
Regular opening hours do not explain a holiday closure or appointment-only visit. Where the platform supports it, use the appropriate fields for special hours and service details. Google’s guidance asks businesses to represent themselves accurately, including their real-world name and precise address or service area.
An address deserves particular care. If it receives mail but not customers, label its purpose. If your team travels to customers, explain the service area instead of encouraging a visit to an office that does not receive the public.
Fix the information at its source.
Keep a short list of discrepancies and who can update each one. A franchise location or business using a managed platform may need to request a correction through its provider. After an update, check the public result rather than assuming the submitted edit is already visible.
This check is about helping customers reach you reliably. It is not a promise of higher search rankings. Repeat it after a move, a phone change, or a change in opening hours.
